When you go to your General practice for your annual flu vaccination, please ask for the free shingles vaccine available for you from the 1st of April 2018.

Shingles is caused from the Chickenpox virus which lays dormant in your system and can occur at any time but is more common in people over 50 years of age- with 2/3’s of cases being reported in 1 of every 2 people by the age of 85 years.

Complications occur for at least 1 in every 4 people who experience Shingles with the most common complications being long term discomfort and chronic nerve pain.

The Shingles vaccine (Zostavax) has minimal side effects and is a one dose vaccine that boosts your immune system to build resistance.
