Nelson Bays Primary Health’s Immunisation Facilitation Service provides professional immunisation leadership in a collaborative partnership between Te Whatu Ora Public Health services, primary and community health organisations, including general practice, community pharmacy and occupational health providers.
This service will help with:
Timely immunisation is the most effective way to actively protect your child from vaccine preventable diseases e.g. measles, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, hepatitis B, mumps, diptheria, pneumococcal disease, haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) human papillomavirus (HPV), rubella, varicella (chicken pox), COVID-19 and influenza.
Childhood Immunisations are provided free to all children in Aotearoa New Zealand up to the age of 18 years old. Parents can protect their children by taking them for their free immunisations as per the New Zealand immunisation schedule. Talk to your general practice team to book in your whānau for their free vaccinations – adolescents and adults are also covered for certain immunisations – check with your general practice nurse or visit New Zealand Immunisation Schedule | Ministry of Health NZ
Immunising on time provides the best protection for your pēpi (baby). Delaying or missing immunisation puts your child's health at risk, at a time when they most need protection. Your baby can be immunised at any general practice in New Zealand regardless of enrolment or immigration status. Catch up immunisations and an outreach immunisation service is available if access to general practice is limited.
Free immunisations are recommended for hapū (pregnant) women, children, and adults with chronic health conditions. For more information visit Immunisation during pregnancy | Ministry of Health NZ
If you have discussed immunisations with your general practice team and would like further advice, please call one of our Immunisation Facilitators on 0800 731 317.
For registered nurses, community pharmacists or other health professionals interested in becoming vaccinators please visit the Education | Immunisation Advisory Centre (immune.org.nz)
To book clinical assessment for Authorisation as a vaccinator please contact your local Immunisation Facilitator via email or phone.
Health Professionals looking to renew their Authorisation as a vaccinator need to complete the required IMAC update (every 2 years) have a current CPR certificate and apply to the Medical Officer of Health.
The cold chain is a process used to maintain vaccines within the required temperature range. All vaccine in New Zealand must be stored between +2°C to +8°C, during storage and transport. In the event of a suspected cold chain breach please ensure all vaccines are quarantined and contact your local immunisation facilitator as soon as possible for advice. All immunisation providers are required to hold a valid Cold Chain Accreditation or Cold Chain Compliance – for further information please visit Cold Chain | Immunisation Advisory Centre (immune.org.nz)
